The VertiGo is a combination of car and helicopter. It is made of a lightweight carbon fiber frame, two independently-tilting propellers, and four 3D-printed wheels which drives on the ground and climbs up walls. These four wheels are unpowered: all of VertiGo’s dynamic power comes from two steerable propellers, which can direct thrust along both pitch and roll axes. The machine also features two infrared sensors, allowing it to accurately assess its environment.
Similar to an RC drone toy, the VertiGo four-wheeled robot can be controlled by a human operator just like a remote control car. There’s no word as to what the companies plan to do with this new technology, but they say it “extends the ability of robots to travel through urban and indoor environments.” Theoretically, the wall crawler can even work on the ceiling which would make it an awesome toy!
If you’re wondering if this wall crawler is going to be next year’s hot new holiday gift, so are we. Climbing robots may be one of the top Christmas toys for 2016 – Stay tuned for updates!
